Mothers
Nothing is stronger than the bond of a mother, and nowhere is that more evident than in the lives of animals.
Animal factories such as those that use extreme confinement don't allow mothers to do what they do best: protect their young. Gestation crates, for example, prevent mother pigs from fulfilling many of their motherly instincts like nest-building.
Avoid factories and support your ethical and sustainable farms.
Interesting tidbits:
Hours before giving birth, a mother pig will separate from the family to seek out a nesting site. She will collect branches, leaves, and grass to build a large nest for her and her babies.
Mother cows have excellent memory and never forget their calves. It is common for them to lick their grown calves just as they did when they were young.
Mother hens will communicate with her chicks before they're even hatched. She will "talk" to her eggs, and her chicks will peep back to her from inside their eggs.
Like any of us, baby goats like to snuggle. It is common for them to form piles in the nursery, as they curl up with mom and each other for companionship and warmth.
